Penistone Show 2025
A South Yorkshire tradition

Penistone Agricultural Show Through the Years

From its Victorian beginnings to its landmark 150th show, Penistone Agricultural Show has remained a celebration of farming, rural life and local community spirit.

1853

The show is established

Penistone Agricultural Show begins during the Victorian era, creating a local platform for agriculture, livestock, horticulture and rural skills.

World War years

Wartime interruptions

The show is not held in several years during the First and Second World Wars, one of the few major interruptions in its long history.

Post-war era

A growing community occasion

The show continues to develop as a major annual gathering, combining livestock classes with horses, horticulture, handicrafts, entertainment and local trade stands.

2001

The show continues without livestock

During the national foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, Penistone Show goes ahead without its usual livestock classes, allowing the wider event to continue.

2007

Livestock restrictions return

Another foot-and-mouth disease alert affects livestock entries. Restrictions are eased in time for cattle and sheep classes, although goats and pigs cannot attend.

2020

Cancelled during the pandemic

Penistone Show is cancelled because of COVID-19 restrictions, marking another rare break in an event that has continued through most of its history.

2021

The show returns

The agricultural show makes its return, with advance online ticketing and updated arrangements helping visitors, exhibitors and volunteers come together again.

2023

The landmark 150th show

Penistone celebrates its 150th Agricultural Show, honouring generations of farming heritage, exhibitors, volunteers and visitors while looking ahead to the future.

2026

Howard & Co. joins the show

Howard & Co. supports the show as a Gold Sponsor and attends with its own stand as the firm prepares to celebrate 50 years of serving local communities.
