Update following SRA intervention into PM Law / WB Pennine
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has confirmed that it has intervened to protect the interests of clients following the sudden closure of PM Law Group firms, including WB Pennine. The SRA’s intervention means it has stepped in to take control of client files and monies where necessary, ensuring matters are safeguarded and that clients are able to move their legal affairs forward with an alternative solicitor. Read the statement released by the SRA.

Recent reports indicate that WB Pennine Solicitors LLP in Penistone (formerly known as Pennine Law), linked to the wider PM Law Group, has ceased trading. We know this news may feel unsettling, particularly if you are part-way through a house move or dealing with a bereavement and probate. This update explains what has been reported, what it may mean for you, and how our team at Howard & Co. can help you move forward.
What has been reported
The legal press has reported that PM Law Group and associated brands appeared to stop operating from Monday 2 February 2026, with notices placed on some office doors stating that, “due to regulatory matters”, the group’s businesses could no longer trade. Concerns were raised about clients being unable to contact their solicitor and the impact on live property transactions. [1]
On 4 February 2026, Legal Futures reported that the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) decided to intervene into 11 firms within the group, including WB Pennine Solicitors LLP. The article quotes the SRA as saying it acted to protect client interests and recognised the situation was also “a difficult time” for employees who had lost their jobs. [2]
ITV News also reported customers turning up to closed offices, including people trying to complete house sales, and said the SRA was in discussions and would take appropriate action to protect clients. [3]
We’re thinking of the staff affected
Sudden closures like this have a real human impact. Many capable, hardworking people will be facing uncertainty through no fault of their own. We extend our sincere best wishes to the staff affected locally and across the wider group.
If you are a WB Pennine client: practical next steps
If you instructed WB Pennine for conveyancing, probate or any other matter and you are now unable to get updates, it is sensible to take action promptly. Where an SRA intervention takes place, the regulator appoints an intervention agent to take control of client files and client money, and clients usually need to instruct a new solicitor to continue their matter. [2]
In many cases, the most helpful steps are:
- Write down key dates (for example, exchange/completion targets, mortgage offer expiry dates, probate deadlines, or any urgent undertakings).
- Gather what you have (ID documents, correspondence, contract pack, memorandum of sale, estate papers, grant details, or any reference numbers).
- Appoint a new solicitor so there is a clear point of contact and your matter can progress with as little disruption as possible.
